Public competition for the remodelling and extension of the former Danish Consulate in the Vallcarca neighbourhood for its conversion into the Casal de Barrio Canals i Yunyer.
The proposal plays with the volumetric contrast between the extension and the existing consulate building. A farmhouse dating from 1860 with a strong architectural presence and definition, with its roofs, eaves, cornices, finials, balustrades and details.
The extension of the building is thus conceived as a tectonic antithesis to the built mass of the farmhouse. A volume of light, glazed with a load-bearing curtain wall on all its façades and ending in an English courtyard on the lower levels.
The verticality of its prefabricated structure responds to the format of the openings of the main building, a fact that identifies both volumes and generates their unity.
