Refurbishment and extension of a traditional seafaring house, ‘A Casa do Pincho’, dating from 1900, in the seafaring village of Raxó.
A ‘corredoira’, a narrow rural cart track, characteristic of the landscape in Galicia and of great historical and ethnological interest, delimits the entire front of the plot. It is originally made up of two volumes, the house and the adjective for domestic animals.
The project proposes the use of simple geometries (triangle, square, rectangle), in consideration of the original genesis of the vernacular architecture of elementary construction represented here in the archetype of the Casa do Pincho, a widespread construction dating from the 12th to the 20th centuries on the Galician coast.
There is a golden relationship between the two volumes: the original and the extension. In the plan, in its height, and in the L-shaped layout of the whole.
The existing topography of steep slope towards the sea generates the consecutive tectonic strata that seek the heights of the walls, of the supports and hierarchise the house.
The gesture: a glazed pavilion with a sectioned reading, a bridge between garden and landscape, a mirror reflecting the estuary, with the pretension of being ethereal, of intensifying the experience of living and of the place.
