Public tender for the rehabilitation of traditional buildings in Fondodevila to be used as housing for residents of the municipality of Parada de Sil.
The reactivation and enhancement of the traditional building complex, in advanced deterioration at the time of the tender, is proposed as a reformulation of the specific spaces of the village and its surroundings.
The surroundings of the site, the rural nucleus, are a mixture of ruins and restoration. It is in this dichotomy of its state that the project wants to approach the proposal plastically. There is a tectonic adaptation of the wood material to the original stone, a contrast, an imbrication in the ruin of the new material.
The relationship of the added volumetry with the existing walls on the lower levels generates courtyards for natural ventilation and seclusion, and on the upper levels it protrudes voluptuously in search of light and comfort.
A dialectic, theoretical and formal, between the modern needs of the contemporary dwelling, no longer so closely linked in the rural world to the work of the countryside, and the rounded enclosures of the popular house. Here they are maintained and participate in the creation of those intermediate spaces that recall the cobbled places for the farm shafts or carts as places of transition between the domestic and the agrarian.
