CAEIRA
Location:
Pontevedra, Galicia
Year: 2024
Type: Landscape / Residential
Program: Aesthetic and functional intervention in housing
Area: 120 m²

A particular commission was received to “aesthetically renovate” the facade of a detached house in the urbanization of La Caeira, Pontevedra. A series of complaints/requests arise in the first visit: An entrance door without exterior space, lack of umbrella stand and shelter area, unwelcoming access, poor use of the paved area surrounding the front.
The constructive constraints, dimensions and possibilities, budget and regulatory level, the changes can not be significant of what exists and should act only at a superficial level, lead to the decision of several procedures:
A floor that regularizes the level of access with the next recreation areas and generates the base of a warm space next to the entrance.
The placement of a timber framing system, vertically and in a false ceiling as a porch. It allows to unify the successive existing facade planes, to form an entrance umbrella, to lengthen its scope, to give the possibility of climbing to the vegetation, and to homogenize naturally the resounding concrete volume that is the house and to create a unitary reading of the whole.
The use of metal guides in the eaves direct the growth of a specific plant species located in the central part of the facade in a planter sized for this purpose.
The facade is painted in off-white and a plinth of granite pieces of elongated format similar to horizontal paving is generated.
